ABOUT
Shonglin is a young designer who adapts to novel changes and proposes design solutions accordingly at the crossroads of Design, Science and Technology. She takes the role of being a responsible designer very seriously, from reviving endangered art forms to using sustainable materials in design solutions.
Curiosity, innovation and the need to contribute positively to nature and society have been the driving forces of Shonglin's passion for the world of design. Over the years, she has managed to acquire knowledge and skills across various fields like fashion, art and technology that aid her in curating projects with an interdisciplinary approach.
She is a recent graduate of MSc Design for the Fashion System from Politecnico di Milano, a world renowned research university. She was also one of 4 students selected for an exclusive exchange program at the world's top fashion college, Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC where she pursued a semester virtually (due to Covid) gaining new skills and improving her existing understanding of fashion.
During her masters, she improved her research and prototype development skills through individual as well as collaborative projects. It is here that she gained an interest in tinkering with interactive, connected, smart and bio materials along with finding new areas of application for them. While working on practical and speculative design projects, she prefers to target social issues and making commercially viable solutions.
When the Covid outbreak occurred, she spent lockdown in India where she hand stitched masks for poor workers and convinced her friends to do the same to help the community.
In 2017-18 she gained exposure from New York's fashion industry by working with renowned designers Zac Posen and Phillip Lim.
In her time-off, Shonglin makes the best of her location based in Milan by exploring nearby Italian cities, neighboring countries and their cuisines. Her fluency in Italian and French allows her to pursue her interest in engaging with locals in their native language. Shonglin enjoys de-stressing by experimenting with new cuisines, spending quality time with friends and also making sustainable hand embroidered Swarovski earrings.

I have had the pleasure, through this internship, to supervise Shonglin on several projects. She has really demonstrated leadership and organization in completing many tasks like sourcing of materials and development of samples for our Women’s and Men’s Fall 2018 collections. Shonglin has shown a strong willingness to work hard and eagerness to learn.
