Finally I got to visit the beautiful Cherry Blossom festival in the capital, Washington D.C. And let me tell you it was absolutely magical!
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL: The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a spring celebration in Washington, D.C., commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington, D.C. Mayor Ozaki donated the trees to enhance the growing friendship between the United States and Japan and also celebrate the continued close relationship between the two nations.
There are live concerts, marches and local delicacies being served where people can enjoy and relax.
WHEN TO VISIT: The cherry blossoms usually hit their peak blooming period in late March or early April. It also really depends on the weather and your luck as to when you plan to visit the festival. If the flowers have fully blossomed accompanied by wind, chances are that quite a lot of the petals would have fallen off. In such a case, you might want to stay or be around DC for a couple of days so that you can see the cherry blossom filled Tidal Basin and get amazing pictures.
BEST PLACE: The prime location for the festival is the Tidal Basin. I would suggest you to go there as early as possible if you want to get nice pics without having to bother about the crowd.
OTHER ATTRACTIONS: There are numerous concerts and parades going on during the festival. They are all free!! So make sure to go there early and save a spot for you and your crew.
Also, there are local delicacies being served like burgers and Funnel cake.
TIP: Make sure you try them whenever you spot the stalls because they usually run out of it pretty soon.
